BRAINTREE, MASS. (09/20/2011)(readMedia)– Defeating the Ford Mustang was not enough for Chevrolet, which is preparing to up the power ante in the pony car wars with the Chevy Camaro ZL1, heading for Massachusetts Chevrolet dealerships in the spring of 2012. Boasting 580 horsepower and 556 pound-feet of torque, the boldest Camaro in Chevrolet’s lineup should keep Ford on the ropes and help the Camaro retain its title as the best-selling sports car in the United States.
Chevy’s latest creation will deliver more horsepower than a Ferrari 458 and more torque than an Aston Martin DB9 V12, making the 2012 Camaro ZL1 a sports car with supercar performance. The most powerful production Camaro ever will also come with mass appeal in the U.S. market, offering buyers a choice of a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission to tame its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine.
“The ZL1 is the kind of muscle car that performance drivers dream about,” said Haykel Ammari, general manager of Greater Boston Chevy dealer Quirk Chevrolet. “Chevrolet is piling on the power, and they’re also tapping into the latest vehicle technology to help drivers tame this beast.”
