2021 Chevy Camaro HD Cooling And Brake Package Unavailable In CA And WA

The 2021 Chevy Camaro is no longer available with the Heavy-Duty Cooling and Braking Package in the states of California and Washington.

The Heavy-Duty Cooling and Braking Package for the 2021 Chevy Camaro is tagged with RPO code Y4Q, and includes the following content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):

• External engine oil cooler (KC4)
• Brembo four-piston front performance, four-wheel antilock, four-wheel disc brakes

The package also includes the Extra Cooling System feature (RPO code V03) when ordered in conjunction with the automatic transmission option.

The Heavy-Duty Cooling and Braking Package is offered on 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trim levels for the 2021 Chevy Camaro Coupe. The package is not available with the Camaro Convertible body style.

The Heavy-Duty Cooling and Braking Package requires either the RS Package (RPO code WRS) or 20-inch five-spoke Carbon Flash painted aluminum wheels (RTH). The package is included with the 1LE Track performance Package (RPO code A1X).

The package availability restriction for the states of California and Washington is due to state regulations related to the copper brake pads included with the Brembo brake components. As GM Authority covered previously, these regulations also restrict state-level availability of the 2021 Chevy Camaro SS, 2021 Camaro 2SS, 2021 Camaro ZL1, and 2021 Camaro ZL1 1LE models.

“Due to restrictions in California and Washington state related to copper brake pads, customers in those states cannot order a 2021 Camaro SS, ZL1 and 1LE for delivery after January 1, 2021. Customers can, however, purchase these models from available dealer stock in those states,” said Senior Manager, Chevrolet Cars and Crossover Communications at General Motors, Kevin M. Kelly, in an official statement to GM Authority in December.

A new braking system that is compliant with California and Washington state restrictions is expected for the 2022 model year Chevy Camaro. The 2021 Chevy Camaro is the sixth model of the latest sixth-generation vehicle.
