The Ground Effects Package for the 2023 Chevy Camaro is currently at zero percent allocation, CamaroNews has learned from sources familiar with the matter. In practical terms, this means GM is not currently producing the Ground Effects Package, making it unavailable for installation on Chevy Camaros now in production.
The exact effect of this situation for those who have ordered or are looking to order the 2023 Chevy Camaro with this Ground Effects Package is uncertain at this point. Possibilities include receiving a Camaro without the trim kit installed, or a delay in the vehicle’s delivery until such time as GM starts producing the package again. There is currently no ETA on renewed availability of the package.
Assigned RPO code 5VM, the Ground Effects Package is a lower-body trim kit that “creates a dramatic, ground-hugging effect” according to Chevrolet. The pack is only available on certain 2023 Chevy Camaro trim and color combinations. It is unavailable on the base 1LS trim or the range-topping ZL1 trim.
Under normal operating conditions, the trim kit can be chosen as an option on the 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, LT1, 1SS, and 2SS trims, including both Coupe and Convertible body styles. Additionally, it is only available on Camaros with Summit White (RPO code GAZ) or Black (GBA) exterior colors.
On 1SS and 2SS trims, the package can typically be ordered as a standalone option; if chosen on the other trim levels – 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, and LT1 -two other options must also be added to the vehicle. These include the Chevrolet Camaro RS Package (RPO code WRS), priced at $1,950 on the 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT and $1,495 on the LT1, plus one of the decklid spoilers from the following list (RPO codes in parentheses):
- Body-color high-wing spoiler, LPO, $795 (5V5)
- Body-color blade spoiler, LPO, $795 (5ZU)
- Carbon Flash Metallic blade spoiler, LPO, $650 (5ZZ)
- Satin Black blade spoiler, LPO, $895 (5ZV)
- Satin Black wing spoiler, LPO, $895 (5ZW)
- Decklid-mounted lip spoiler, $180 (D80)
- Carbon Flash Metallic wing spoiler, LPO, $895 (SB2)
In August 2022, the 2023 Chevy Camaro lost multiple LPO-level dealer-installed options, including several types of premium floor mats, the Camaro Logo Package, dark finish tail lamps, and more. However, in October 2022, GM brought back three door accent trim kits after they were deleted on the 2023 Camaro in June. At that time, GM also restored availability of the 20-inch Caliente wheel option (RPO code 57V).
Removal of various options from the 2023 Chevy Camaro is likely related to the approaching sunset of the the sixth-gen muscle car. Order banks for the 2023 Camaro will close in June 2023 and production will stop on August 3rd, 2023.
A special-edition farewell package, possibly named the Heritage Edition, is planned. Until its impending discontinuation, the 2023 Chevy Camaro will continue to be built on the GM Alpha platform with production taking place at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan.
