Chevy Camaro Park Assist Retrofits Under Way!

Chevy Camaro Park Assist Retrofits Under Way!

GM dealerships have started to retrofit the Rear Park Assist feature (RPO code UD7) on certain units of the 2022 Chevy Camaro and 2023 Chevy Camaro, CamaroNews has learned.

Some 2022 and 2023 Chevy Camaro units were produced without a functional park assist feature because of the microchip shortage.

The affected units from the 2022 model year are those produced from January 31st, 2022 onwards to the end of production. Affected 2023 model year units were produced between start of regular production (SORP) on June 17th, 2022, and July 24th, 2022. Notably, all affected units of both model years were produced in calendar year 2022.

All affected vehicles can be identified through inspection of the window sticker, which includes the RPO code 00Y if the unit was built with the Rear Park Assist feature non-functional.

The Rear Park Assist feature (UD7) is normally included as standard on the 3LT, 2SS and ZL1 trim levels. This feature is not offered at all on the other trims of either the 2022 or 2023 Chevy Camaro, including the 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, LT1, and 1SS trim levels.

Dealerships can carry out the retrofit by replacing the currently installed non-functional park assist module with a new, functional park assist module. The dealership service personnel may also need to reprogram the instrument cluster and/or the active safety control module in some of the affected Chevy Camaro units.

The actual replacement of the park assist module requires approximately 48 minutes on average. It is carried out free of additional charge.

The retrofit program is in effect until March 31st, 2026.

Dealerships notified buyers of affected Chevy Camaros about the non-functional Rear Park Assist feature at the time of purchase, and the missing feature was so indicated on the vehicle’s window sticker as noted above with RPO code 00Y. Owners were notified of their vehicle’s eligibility for a retrofit at no additional cost once the necessary parts became available.

Affected 2022 or 2023 Chevy Camaro owners who want more information about the retrofit can call Chevrolet’s customer service number, referencing the GM customer satisfaction program number below.

GM resolved the constraint on Rear Parking Assist for the Chevy Camaro from July 24th, 2022, when sufficient semiconductor chips became available to produce vehicles with functional Rear Parking Assist again. New 2023 Chevy Camaro units produced on or after July 24th, 2022 were produced with functional Rear Parking Assist and do not require a retrofit.
