Chevy Camaro Recalled For Missing Axle Shaft Retaining Ring

2General Motors has issued a recall for certain examples of the Chevy Camaro sports coupe due to an issue related to the axle shaft retaining ring.

The problem: in affected Chevy Camaro examples, the left or right axle shaft may be missing a retaining ring due to an error made during the vehicle’s production process.

The hazards: if a vehicle is missing the left or right axle shaft retaining ring, the axle shaft may separate from the vehicle while driving. A separated axle could lead to a sudden loss in drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left or right axle shaft as necessary. These repairs will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Affected components: left or right axle shaft retaining ring.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2021 Chevy Camaro

Number of affected vehicles: only eight Chevy Camaro vehicles in total are believed to be affected by this issue. All of these vehicles are located in the United States.

Owners should: GM will notify owners of affected vehicles and instruct them to make an appointment with their dealer. If owners are unsure whether or not their vehicle is affected, they can visit my.gm.com/recalls and type in their VIN to see any open recalls or other actions that may be active on it. This recall campaign is expected to begin on May 3rd, 2021. Concerned owners can also visit the NHTSA’s site at safecar.gov for more information on this particular recall campaign.
