SLP ZL1 vs GT500

Recently I saw a Mustang fan posting on the Chevy Camaro Facebook page about how much faster the GT500 was compared to a Camaro SS.  I tried to explain to him that the Camaro SS is a production car and the Shelby GT500 is not.  I told him if he wanted to compare apples to apples, then compare the 2011 SLP ZL1 to the 2011 Shelby GT500.   Here are the facts:

 

Horsepower:

• Camaro SLP ZL1: 750 horsepower
• Ford Shelby GT500: 550 horsepower

Results: The SLP ZL1 has 200 more horsepower than the Shelby GT500

 

0-60 Times:

• Camaro SLP ZL1: 0-60 MPH in 3.2 seconds
• Ford Shelby GT500: 0-60 MPH in 4.2 seconds

Results: The SLP ZL1 reaches 60 MPH more than 20% quicker than the Shelby GT500

 

1/4 Mile Times:

• Camaro SLP ZL1: 1/4 mile in 11.1 seconds (129 MPH)
• Ford Shelby GT500: 1/4 mile in 12.3 seconds (119 MPH)

Results: The SLP ZL1 runs the 1/4 more than a full second faster than the Shelby GT500
