The upcoming Collector’s Edition of the 2024 Chevy Camaro will be available in both Coupe and Convertible body styles, CamaroNews has learned From MuscleCars and Trucks.
The 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition bids farewell to the classic sports car’s sixth generation, though GM has currently revealed very few details of the planned special edition.
The revelation that both Coupe and Convertible body styles will be available fills in a few of the blanks about the 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition. It’s also known that the Collector’s Edition will be offered for the LT RS, SS, and ZL1 trim levels only.
The few glimpses GM has given of the 2024 Chevy Camaro in its Collector’s Edition guise show details such as a wing-like rear spoiler and multi-spoke alloy wheels. The Collector’s Edition “pays homage to Camaro, resurfacing ties that date back to the development of the first generation Camaro in the 1960s, most notably the program’s initial code name: Panther” according to The General.
For motivation, the Collector’s Edition of the 2024 Chevy Camaro will offer the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGXgasoline engine, rated at 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, for the LT trim with the RS package. The SS trim will be powered by the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1 gasoline engine, developing 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque, while the ZL1 trim gets the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine providing an output of 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Both the six-speed manual and the GM 10-speed automatic transmission will be available with the Collector’s Edition. The fourth Chevy Camaro engine choice, the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG gasoline engine, will not be available with the Collector’s Edition.
The 2024 Chevy Camaro will be the final model year for the sixth generation, but GM has confirmed a new generation will arrive at some point in the future, possibly as a lineup of EV models under a Camaro EV sub-brand.
As a reminder, the Chevy Camaro rides on the GM Alpha platform under the body panels. Production of the 2024 Chevy Camaro is scheduled to start in August and will take place at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan.
The sixth-generation Chevy Camaro is set to exit with the conclusion of the 2024 model year. Now, CamaroNews has learned when production of the 2024 Chevy Camaro will officially get under way.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 Chevy Camaro is set the kick off on August 7th, 2023.
As was the case for the 2023 Chevy Camaro, the 2024 Chevy Camaro will once again be produced at the GM Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan. As Musclecars and Trucks covered previously, production of the 2023 Chevy Camaro will end on August 3rd, 2023. GM will stop taking orders for the 2023 Chevy Camaro in June.
Last month, GM announced that the 2024 Chevy Camaro would be available with a new Collector’s Edition package, confirming an earlier by Musclecars and Trucks report published in 2020 that the final model year for the sixth-gen sports car would offer some sort of farewell special edition model. Although GM declined to specify exactly what the new 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition would entail, the automaker did hint that the package “pays homage to Camaro, resurfacing ties that date back to the development of the first generation Camaro in the 1960s, most notably the program’s initial codename: Panther.”
The 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition package will be available in North America for Camaro RS and Camaro SS trim levels, as well as a “limited number” of ZL1 models. Orders for the 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition begin this summer.
Production of the 2024 Chevy Camaro will end in January of next year. Looking ahead, GM has confirmed that the Chevy Camaro nameplate will indeed get a new generation sometime in the future. The specifics of what the next-generation Chevy Camaro might look are still unavailable, but it will likely include some form of all-electric powertrain, possibly with the introduction of a new Camaro EV sub-brand umbrella.
