I have been to my fair share of indoor car shows. It started in my youth and continued into adulthood, first as just an enthusiast and then as a muscle car owner. I must admit, as much as I loved going before, ever since I’ve had my own beautiful Camaro, I somehow love it even more now.
It is especially nice during the winter months to have other options besides movies or bowling to go to. And these days there are many options for finding a good indoor car venue. One of my favorites to attend is AutoRama. The very first AutoRama was put on by the MHRA (Michigan Hot Rod Association) at the University of Detroit Field House in January of 1953, with 50 cars. AutoRama continued to expand throughout the late 60s and early 70s, and today is featured in several locations across the United States.
I went to AutoRama last year as just a spectator and enjoyed surveying the wide collection of cars, as well as the many events they had planned (examples include the Automotive Swap Meet & Toy Show, 1:64 Scale Competitive Downhill Racing, Special Guest Appearances, Great Rockabilly Music, and Performance World – showcasing modern muscle, Sport Compacts, Exotics & European Luxury).
Houston’s AutoRama runs during Thanksgiving weekend each year and brings in quite a crowd. This year my Camaro will be one of the cars in the show, so I am even more excited than before. I will be showing with one of my clubs (West Houston Muscle) and will be featured beside a gorgeous ’69 Camaro, so we can represent the old and the new. The other car club I am a member of (H-Town Camaro Club) will also have a nice display as well. If you are in the Houston, Texas area, you should definitely make the time to come out. And if you aren’t in the Houston area, then just check the AutoRama website to find a show closer to you.
