The ride-along video features a helmet camera, gas- brake- and clutch-pedal camera, and countless exterior angles, so it’s quite easy to find yourself immersed in the action. The audio recording of the mammoth 7.0 liter LS7 V8 powering the 505 horsepower pony car sounds absolutely mean, with no forced-induction whine to get in the way of its animal growl. It’s nothing but deep, throaty, petrol-burning aural bliss.
As the 2014 Camaro Z/28 is so-equipped with a manual transmission, the inclusion of a foot-pedal angle is a swell idea, so that the viewer can monitor the fury and quickness with which the driver heel-and-toes into every corner. We just wish that the foot well were lit and the shots lingered longer so we could really see the fluidity of the motion.
Of course, easily the most breathtaking maneuver on the Laguna Seca track is The Corkscrew at turn 8. In tackling that, the Camaro Z/28 is fearless and worry-free. Just a little bit of wheel spin at entry and the car cuts in, hooks up with the road and blasts down the awesome drop.
As an impressive driver’s car and track-performer, clearly the Camaro Z/28 has not been over-hyped.
