GM Hertiage Grille – Do It Yourself

This step-by-step guide will walk you through the process of changing your current grille to the GM heritage grille.

Step 1: Gather tools needed for this modification:

Jack and Lug Wrench (or Torque Wrench)
Pry Tool
7mm Socket (1 bolt in each wheel well)
10mm Socket (all other bolts)
Socket Wrench
T20 Torx Wrench

Step 2: Use the 10mm Socket and remove the 2 bolts under spoiler

Step 3: Use pry tool and remove the fasteners on top

Step 4: Remove the front tires.  Each inner wheel well has 5 fasteners and 5 torx screws.  Remove all of them.  The wheel well fasteners are different than the fasteners up top, so keep them seperate so they don’t get mixed up.

Step 5: Remove the inner wheel well guard

Step 6: Use the 7mm socket and 10mm sockets to remove these 2 bolts.  Do no remove the nut with the X through it.

Step 7: Use the 10mm socket to remove these 3 bolts.

* After I complete the driver’s side, I put the wheel back on and then proceed to the passenger side.  I leave the passenger side jacked up for the rest of the installation.

Step 8: As the last step of removing the front clip, remove two bolts up top (one on each side).  Remove the driver side first and then the passenger side.  The passenger side will have a wiring harness you will need to unclip as you slide the front clip off.

* Here is a photo of the wiring harness unclipped.

Step 9: Remove original grille, you’ll see little plastic clips holding it in place.  Insert GM Heritage grille in place.

Step 10: After you slide the front clip back in place, refer to step 8 and replace those 2 bolts first.  After you replace those 2 bolts, reconnect the wiring harness on the passenger side.

Step 11: Replace bolts from step 7, then replace bolts from Step 6

Step 12: Replace inner wheel well, replace 5 fasteners and 5 torx screws

Step 13: Mount passenger tire, repeat process for driver’s side tire

Step 14: Replace fasteners from Step 3

Step 15: Replace bolts from Step 2

Step 16: You’re done!  Get a beer and admire your work!
